The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office has charged 22-year-old Gurpreet Singh with arson and intent to commit fraud. This news comes after an investigation into a house fire that occurred on April 22, 2024, in the 5700 block of Tart Boulevard in Indianapolis.

Firefighters responded to the blaze shortly after 11 PM. When they arrived, they found flames reaching through the roof. Due to the intensity of the fire, they quickly switched to defensive operations. It took them about 50 minutes to bring the fire under control. Fortunately, the occupant of the home was not there at the time.

Following the fire, investigators were called in to determine its cause. Their findings revealed that the fire was intentionally set, indicating arson. The investigation was thorough, involving multiple search warrants and interviews over several months.

Authorities identified Gurpreet Singh as the homeowner and the person responsible for the fire. They believe he set the fire to collect insurance money, with the estimated loss of the property valued at $430,000. Singh was arrested in Ohio and brought back to Indianapolis, where he also faces felony battery charges.

Singh is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court. The case highlights the serious consequences of arson and fraudulent insurance claims.
