Allianz Division Considering Call Center Job Reductions Amid AI Transition

Allianz SE is considering cutting jobs at its assistance and travel insurance unit, Allianz Partners, as the company looks to use artificial intelligence more in its operations. The job cuts are expected to affect call center roles. Reports suggest that between 1,500 and 1,800 positions could be cut over the next year to a year and a half.

A spokesperson for Allianz Partners did not confirm these cuts but said the company is exploring how AI can be used in the coming years. They added that while AI might create new roles and opportunities, it may also impact jobs that rely heavily on manual work today.

Allianz Partners employs around 22,600 people. The move follows a trend seen in other companies across different industries who are adopting AI to speed up services and reduce costs. For example, Deutsche Lufthansa plans to cut 4,000 administrative jobs by 2030 citing AI as a factor, while Dutch bank ING has warned that nearly 1,000 jobs could be at risk due to digitalization and AI.

This increasing use of AI highlights how technology is changing the workplace and the roles people hold. Many companies are balancing the benefits of faster, cheaper services with the challenge of workforce reductions. For Allianz Partners, the changes appear focused on customer service jobs that can be automated. How the company supports employees through this shift remains to be seen.
