Man Arrested Near UnitedHealthCare After Threatening to Open Fire at Headquarters

A man was arrested outside the UnitedHealthcare headquarters in Minnetonka, Minnesota, after making threats and claiming he had a loaded gun. The 26-year-old, who has a history of mental health issues, was charged with felony firearm offenses and making threats of violence.

On Monday morning, the man called the FBI and informed them that he was parked in the company lot with a gun. Police were already aware of his mental health challenges and previous harassment incidents. When officers arrived, they found him sitting in his car. He spoke with an FBI negotiator and surrendered peacefully within an hour. A revolver and ammunition were discovered in his vehicle.

According to the complaint, earlier that day, he had also called 911, threatening to shoot into the UnitedHealthcare building unless charges against him were dropped. He ominously suggested that his actions could lead to an evacuation that would make the news.

Police and company officials noted that there was no evidence the man had specific issues with UnitedHealthcare itself. However, security at the corporate campus was heightened following the tragic shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson in New York City last December.

The man’s background includes a felony conviction for threats of violence, which prohibits him from possessing firearms. He also faces two separate pending cases for violating restraining orders. The situation highlights ongoing concerns about mental health and gun violence, particularly in corporate settings.
