Chhabra Appointed Chief Risk Officer at The Hartford

The Hartford is making a change in its leadership team. Prateek Chhabra will become the new chief risk officer (CRO) starting September 1. He takes over from Robert Paiano, who plans to retire at the end of the year after nearly three decades with the company.

Chhabra has been with The Hartford since 2018, serving as senior vice president and chief insurance risk officer. He will report directly to CEO Christopher Swift. Before joining The Hartford, Chhabra held the CRO position for domestic businesses at The Hanover Insurance Group. His work at The Hartford has helped improve risk management and encouraged new ideas across the company.

Paiano, who has spent 29 years with the insurer, steps down from the CRO role but will stay on briefly to assist with the leadership handover. Before becoming chief risk officer, he was The Hartford’s treasurer.

CEO Christopher Swift highlighted Chhabra’s experience and achievements, saying he is the right person to lead the company’s risk management efforts moving forward. This leadership update shows The Hartford’s commitment to maintaining strong risk oversight as it continues to grow.
