Union Pacific Train Cars Derail Near Texas Town, No Injuries Confirmed

Thirty-five cars from a Union Pacific train went off the tracks on Tuesday afternoon near Gordon, a small town in Texas. The derailment happened around 2 p.m., just east of the town, which sits about 65 miles southwest of Fort Worth. Thankfully, no one was hurt, and no one needed to leave their homes.

Photos from the scene showed several train cars piled on top of each other along the tracks in a rural area. There was smoke and a small grass fire next to the wreckage. Firefighters were on the scene working to put out the grass fires, and so far, no buildings were at risk.

The situation was treated as a hazardous materials incident, but officials didn’t immediately know what the train was carrying. According to the Palo Pinto County Emergency Services District, none of the cars were leaking any material, which is a relief given the circumstances. Emergency workers confirmed everyone was accounted for, and while things were stable, crews were still working to fully control the situation.

Union Pacific crews were on their way to the site to help with cleanup and assessment. Local fire and emergency teams remained focused on containing the fires and ensuring the area stayed safe. There were no reported injuries, and no evacuations took place, which is good news for residents nearby. The cause of the derailment had not been announced as of the last update.
