Arizona Experienced a 15% Drop in Vehicle Thefts in 2024.

Vehicle thefts in Arizona saw a significant drop in 2024, according to the Arizona Automobile Theft Authority (AATA). The state reported a 15% decrease in stolen vehicles, marking the second consecutive year of decline.

In total, 17,010 vehicles were reported stolen in Arizona last year. This number is nearly 3,000 fewer than the 20,006 vehicles stolen in 2023, as noted in the AATA’s Auto Crime Tracking database.

The AATA highlighted that the trend in the types of vehicles being stolen has remained consistent. Chevrolet Silverados continue to top the list of most stolen vehicles in Arizona. Additionally, certain models of Kias and Hyundais, particularly from 2011 to 2022 that lack an engine immobilizer, are also frequently targeted. An engine immobilizer is a safety feature that prevents the engine from starting unless the correct key is used.

The AATA operates under the Arizona Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions, and its efforts seem to be making a positive impact on vehicle theft rates across the state. As thefts decline, it’s a relief for many vehicle owners, who can feel a bit safer about their cars.
