The U.S. Department of Labor is providing nearly $900,000 to Texas to help people affected by the recent severe storms. This funding will support jobs and training programs for residents struggling to recover from widespread damage and flooding.
The heavy rains started on July 2, 2025, and didn’t let up until July 18. One of the hardest-hit areas was Kerr County and nearby communities along the Guadalupe River. On July 4, intense flooding caused severe damage and, sadly, loss of life due to the river rising quickly.
In response to the disaster, the Federal Emergency Management Agency declared a major disaster for the region. This declaration allowed Texas to ask for extra federal help with recovery.
Thanks to this support, the Texas Workforce Commission can offer short-term jobs focused on cleaning up and rebuilding. They are also providing job training and employment services to workers in the affected areas. The goal is to give people a chance to get back on their feet while helping their communities recover.
This effort aims to ease the impact of the storms and flood by creating work opportunities and supporting local workers as they heal from the recent disaster.
