A former insurance agent from Friendswood, Texas, is facing serious legal trouble after turning himself in to the police last week. Edgar Peralta, who operated Peralta Insurance Brokerage LLC, is charged with theft, a state jail felony, according to the Friendswood Police Department.
The investigation began when police received a report on March 3, 2025, about a possible insurance scam. A victim claimed they had been using Peralta as their insurance broker for several years, purchasing homeowner, auto, and flood insurance through him. In May 2024, Peralta recommended that the victim pre-purchase their insurance policies for the upcoming year, promising significant savings.
However, things took a turn in January 2025 when the victim was pulled over during a traffic stop. They discovered that their auto insurance policy was not valid. Upon contacting the insurance company, they learned that the policy had been canceled due to non-payment of premiums. Further investigation revealed that their homeowners and flood insurance policies had also been canceled for the same reason.
The victim had records showing they sent payments to Peralta for these policies, which he was supposed to forward to the insurance companies. Unfortunately, it appears that he never paid the insurers. Alarmingly, the victim later found out that Peralta’s state insurance license had been revoked in June 2024, yet he continued to sell insurance policies fraudulently.
Peralta turned himself in on April 10, and the Friendswood Police Department has reported the case to the Texas Department of Insurance, which is conducting its own investigation. This could potentially lead to additional charges against Peralta.
