Louisiana Department of Insurance Achieves NAIC Accreditation and Appoints Leadership Positions

The Louisiana Department of Insurance (LDI) has achieved full national accreditation from the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC). This recognition highlights the department’s commitment to ensuring financial stability in the insurance sector.

Commissioner Tim Temple received a letter from NAIC CFO James Woody, who emphasized that this accreditation helps protect insurance consumers by ensuring proper financial oversight of insurance companies. The NAIC’s Financial Regulation Standards and Accreditation Committee granted the accreditation during their Spring National Meeting in Indianapolis. This program sets regulatory standards for insurance across all U.S. states, the District of Columbia, and five territories.

To earn this accreditation, a state insurance department must meet rigorous standards that demonstrate its ability to effectively oversee the insurance industry. This is crucial for consumer protection and market stability, allowing other states to trust the department’s regulatory efforts.

In addition to this achievement, LDI officials have been selected for several leadership roles within the NAIC for 2025. Commissioner Temple will co-chair the International Insurance Relations Committee and serve as vice chairman of the Surplus Lines Task Force. He will also join the Government Relations Leadership Council and the Reinsurance Task Force.

The International Insurance Relations Committee plays a vital role in international discussions about insurance regulations, while the Surplus Lines Task Force focuses on alternative insurance options for consumers who cannot find coverage in the standard market.

Other LDI leaders are also taking on important roles. Tom Travis, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of Policy, Innovation, and Research, will join the Climate and Resiliency Task Force. Chief Actuary Nichole Torblaa will be part of the Casualty Actuarial and Statistical Task Force. Melissa Gibson, Deputy Commissioner of Financial Solvency, has been appointed to multiple task forces, including those focused on financial stability and oversight.

Nathan Strebeck, Deputy Commissioner of the Division of Insurance Fraud, will serve on the Antifraud Task Force. Ron Henderson, Deputy Commissioner of the Division of Consumer Advocacy, will participate in the NAIC/Consumer Liaison Committee. Chuck Myers, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of Property and Casualty, will join the Risk Retention Group Task Force, and Matt Stewart, Deputy Commissioner of Licensing, will be on the Producer Licensing Task Force.

This accreditation and the new leadership roles reflect LDI’s ongoing efforts to enhance consumer protection and improve the insurance regulatory framework in Louisiana.
