Louisiana Police Video Challenges Claims That LSU Star Was Too Far From Fatal Crash

Louisiana state police have shared new video evidence related to a deadly car crash last December, which they say was caused by Kyren Lacy, a former LSU football player. Lacy died by suicide just days before a grand jury was set to review the case.

The 11-minute video was released after Lacy’s defense lawyer shared footage aimed at proving Lacy was not close enough to the crash to be responsible. However, Louisiana State Police stand by their findings, insisting the full facts show Lacy’s reckless driving set off the chain of events that led to a fatal collision.

The crash happened on a Louisiana highway when Lacy, driving a green Dodge Charger, reportedly sped and crossed into oncoming traffic to pass cars in a no-passing zone. Police say another driver swerved to avoid hitting Lacy and crashed head-on with a third vehicle. Herman Hall, a 78-year-old man, died in that crash. Lacy then left the scene without calling for help.

Lacy, who had declared for the 2025 NFL draft, turned himself in and faced charges including negligent homicide and felony hit and run. He was released on bail. In April, days before the grand jury hearing, Lacy died after fleeing a police traffic stop near Houston.

Lacy’s lawyer recently told a local news outlet that the new footage shows Lacy was too far behind the crash to have caused it. Still, state police highlight that no evidence suggests Lacy directly hit any vehicle involved. Instead, their investigation argues his dangerous driving forced others into motion that caused the crash.

The case has sparked debate. Louisiana Democrats have called for a full investigation, questioning whether Lacy was wrongly accused. Meanwhile, the state’s Attorney General says she is reviewing the evidence but maintains that witnesses identified Lacy’s car as the cause. She added that even if Lacy returned to his lane, it doesn’t remove his responsibility.

LSU’s football coach Brian Kelly, when asked about the matter, urged patience and said it’s best to wait until all information is available before making conclusions.

The tragedy continues to raise tough questions in Louisiana, with many hoping a thorough review will clarify what really happened that day.
