Mercedes-Benz is making a significant move by expanding its North American headquarters in metro Atlanta. The automaker announced this plan on Thursday, stating it will bring about 500 new jobs to its existing facility in Sandy Springs. This site has been serving as Mercedes-Benz’s U.S. headquarters since 2018 and currently employs around 800 people.
The new positions will primarily come from the closure of the company’s financial services headquarters in the Detroit area. Along with the job growth, Mercedes-Benz also plans to build a multimillion-dollar research and development center nearby, further solidifying its presence in Georgia.
The expansion is expected to be completed by August 2026. Jason Hoff, the CEO of Mercedes-Benz North America, emphasized the benefits of this move, saying it will allow teams to work more closely together, enhancing the company’s agility and improving customer experiences.
This decision is part of a larger trend in Georgia, which has become a hub for automotive companies. Other major players like Porsche, Hyundai, and Kia have established significant operations in the state. Governor Brian Kemp highlighted Georgia’s role in the evolving automotive industry, noting that it continues to attract leading companies like Mercedes-Benz.
As the automotive landscape shifts, this expansion reflects the growing importance of Georgia in the sector and the ongoing investment in innovation and job creation in the region.
