Midair Collision Between Two Planes at Colorado Airport Results in 1 Death and 3 Injuries

A tragic accident occurred Sunday morning near Fort Morgan Municipal Airport in northeastern Colorado when two small planes collided while trying to land. The crash involved a Cessna 172 and an Extra Flugzeugbau EA300, each carrying two people.

According to the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, both aircraft collided midair, crashed, and burst into flames. One person died at the scene, while three others were injured. The two people on the Cessna sustained minor injuries, and one occupant from the other plane was hospitalized.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the details and said investigators from both the FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board have launched an inquiry into the cause of the collision.

Fort Morgan, a small city about 80 miles northeast of Denver with around 12,000 residents, was rocked by this rare and deadly event. Midair collisions at local airports are uncommon, making this incident especially notable and tragic for the community.

Authorities have not yet shared information about what led to the accident. As investigators piece together what happened, the focus remains on supporting those affected and understanding how to prevent similar accidents in the future.
