North Carolina Woman Charged with 170 Felonies in Insurance Fraud Scheme Involving Stolen GLP-1 Medications

A woman from North Carolina faces serious charges after allegedly running a scheme involving weight-loss drugs and insurance fraud for the past three years. Heather Ann Robinson, 37, from Kenly near Raleigh, was accused by the state Department of Insurance of illegally getting GLP-1 medications like Ozempic and Wegovy. Without any medical training, she reportedly sold the drugs to others, gave them advice, and even administered the injections herself.

Robinson is charged with 170 felonies, including insurance fraud, identity theft, and credit card fraud. Investigators say she also used stolen identities to steal more than $46,000 from victims’ 401K retirement funds. Over the course of her scheme, she reportedly defrauded insurance companies out of over $87,400 and tried to claim an additional $157,300.

The investigation began in December 2024 after the Department of Insurance received tips about possible fraud. Officials obtained a search warrant, raided Robinson’s home, and seized evidence like her laptop and cellphone. It took investigators six months to sift through the large volume of information collected. Some of the stolen personal data came from family members, though details on how she obtained everything remain unclear.

Robinson filed false claims with supplemental insurance providers such as Aflac and Colonial Life. She turned herself in on October 8 at the Wilson County Sheriff’s Office and was released on a $100,000 bond.

This isn’t Robinson’s first run-in with the law over money issues. Earlier in 2024, she was fired from a job as an office manager after being accused of embezzling $58,000. In that case, the company chose not to press charges after she agreed to repay what she took.

The case sheds light on the growing problem of prescription drug misuse and insurance fraud, especially involving popular weight-loss medications. Authorities are continuing to investigate as the legal process moves forward.
