Sentry Insurance has announced that Pete Anhalt will take charge of The General following Sentry’s acquisition of the brand from American Family Insurance, which is set to be finalized in September 2024. Anhalt, who is currently the president of Sentry’s Dairyland nonstandard auto insurance brand, will lead the transition as the two businesses move toward consolidating under The General name.
This merger is significant because it will create one of the largest providers in the nonstandard auto insurance market. Dairyland is known for its network of independent agents, while The General serves customers directly, especially those who find it hard to obtain standard auto insurance coverage.
Sentry’s chairman and CEO, Pete McPartland, expressed strong confidence in Anhalt’s leadership, highlighting his extensive experience in the nonstandard auto market. McPartland believes Anhalt and his team will enhance customer experiences and bring new opportunities to the merged company.
With this acquisition, Sentry’s workforce will grow to over 6,000 employees across the country. The General will continue to operate from its Nashville offices, which will serve as a key hub for the company’s nonstandard auto operations, while Dairyland will remain headquartered in Middleton, Wisconsin.
Tiku Raval, who has been president of The General since 2020, will be leaving the company as part of this transition. This change marks an important step for Sentry as it aims to strengthen its position in the auto insurance market.
