SiriusPoint and Howden have made significant new appointments as part of their growth strategies. Eleanor Gibson has been named the international chief underwriting officer at SiriusPoint, while April McLaughlin will lead Howden Re in Miami.
Eleanor Gibson will join SiriusPoint on May 6, 2025. Based in London, she will report to Rob Gibbs, the president and CEO of SiriusPoint International, and Anthony Shapella, the group chief underwriting officer. Gibson brings 30 years of experience in the insurance industry, having previously worked at AIG as the chief underwriting officer for credit lines. Her role will involve providing leadership to underwriting and portfolio management teams, focusing on profitable growth.
Before her time at AIG, Gibson held positions at various companies, including Tokio Millennium Re and Lloyd’s. Her extensive background positions her well to drive SiriusPoint’s strategic initiatives in underwriting.
Meanwhile, Howden has appointed April McLaughlin as the managing director of Howden Miami. In this newly created role, McLaughlin will establish a presence for Howden Re in Miami and oversee the integration and growth of the company’s specialty insurance businesses in Latin America and the Caribbean. She will report to Sonia Caamaño, CEO of International Growth Markets, and Mario Baotic, head of International Treaty at Howden Re.
McLaughlin has over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry, most recently serving as the head of Chaucer’s Latin America hub. She has also held significant roles at AXA XL. Her appointment is seen as a key step for Howden as it aims to enhance its treaty capabilities and provide better solutions for clients in the region.
Both appointments highlight the ongoing efforts by SiriusPoint and Howden to strengthen their positions in the global insurance market.
