Liberty Specialty Markets and Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance have made significant leadership changes recently, aiming to strengthen their operations in key regions.
Daniel Unstad has been appointed as the head of Liberty Nordics, effective immediately. He will be based in Oslo and report to Roland Richter and Rob Groenen. Unstad brings 25 years of experience in insurance and surety to this role. He will focus on shaping the strategic direction of the company in the Nordic region and will work to build a strong insurance and surety team. This move is part of Liberty’s plans for growth in the Nordics, where they see a lot of potential due to recent market volatility. Unstad previously served as Liberty’s head of surety in Norway and was the chief operating officer at MGA House of Guarantees before it was acquired by Liberty Mutual in 2024.
In another significant move, Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance has promoted Megan Howe to head of Claims for Australasia. Howe has been with BHSI since 2015, starting as head of Claims in New Zealand. She has taken on more responsibilities over the years, including overseeing claims for global programs since 2021. Howe has a strong background in law, specializing in insurance-related work for two decades. In her new role, she will report to Mark Lingafelter and Dave Crowe. Howe is based in Auckland and is expected to enhance the claims process across the region.
These appointments reflect the companies’ ambitions to strengthen their positions in competitive markets and improve their service offerings.
