Inszone expands in Utah with acquisition of Salt Lake City agency

Sacramento-based Inszone has joined forces with Charles James Cayias Insurance Inc., a family-run agency from Salt Lake City. This move strengthens Inszone’s presence in Utah, where it already operates offices in Orem and Provo.

Charles James Cayias Insurance has been around since 1997, started by Charley James Cayias and his wife, Cyndia. Charley, who has been a licensed insurance agent since 1977, is a third-generation professional in the field. The couple later welcomed their son, Dimitri, to the family business. The agency focuses on niche commercial insurance, including coverage for pilot cars and hospitality businesses like bars and restaurants. In fact, it’s the top writer of pilot car insurance in the Salt Lake City area.

The decision to merge with Inszone came after several offers, but the Cayias family chose Inszone because they appreciated how the company respected their agency’s identity and culture. Charley Cayias said he wanted to step back from administrative tasks but still stay connected to his clients. He praised Inszone for allowing him to focus on building relationships while they handle the office work.

This deal is part of Inszone’s bigger plan to grow through acquisitions. The company has completed over 120 deals in the U.S., with 36 of those happening in 2024 alone. So far, Inszone has raised $466 million to support these moves. Most acquisitions are paid in cash, with some offering equity and earnout options.

Inszone first entered Utah in late 2024 by acquiring L.A. Bowen Insurance in Orem. The latest merger with Charles James Cayias Insurance fits right into their existing Utah footprint, rather than marking a new market launch. Earlier this month, Inszone expanded into Nebraska by purchasing Jaffrey Insurance & Financial Services in Omaha.

Chris Walters, Inszone’s CEO, said the Cayias family brings valuable niche expertise to their company. He expressed pride that the family chose Inszone and said they aim to give them the resources to keep serving their Utah clients for years to come. After the merger, Cayias will remain involved but will focus more on working directly with clients rather than handling back-office tasks.
