The deadline to register for the latest round of Louisiana Fortify Homes Program (LFHP) grants has been pushed back to 5 p.m. on Thursday, November 20. The Louisiana Department of Insurance made this change after a nationwide Cloudflare outage disrupted the application process earlier this week.
Homeowners interested in receiving one of the 1,000 available grants must sign up for the lottery during this extended registration window. This round is open to residents living in Louisiana’s Coastal Zone, along with those in Lake Charles, Sulphur, and Westlake. Even if homeowners have joined past rounds, they need to register again to take part in this lottery.
To register, participants must first create a profile on the LFHP website by clicking the Login button. Those who already have an account can simply use their existing profile. Once logged in, they need to complete the registration within the set period to be eligible for the grant lottery.
The grants offer up to $10,000 to help homeowners strengthen their roofs to meet the standards of the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety. This roofing upgrade aims to protect homes from hurricane-force winds, a crucial improvement for many in these vulnerable areas. However, homeowners chosen for the program will be responsible for any costs beyond the grant amount, including evaluation fees based on charges set by the evaluator.
Anyone interested should check details about eligibility and homeowner duties on the official Fortify Homes website before applying. This program is part of ongoing efforts to help Louisiana residents make their homes safer and more resilient against storms.
