The Insurance Council of Texas (ICT) and State Farm have teamed up for the 2025 Lock It Down! campaign, a statewide effort aimed at cutting down vehicle theft, burglary, and related crimes. This year, the campaign is adding parking lot signs that remind people to “LOCK IT DOWN” right where they park.
State Farm agents across Texas are delivering these signs to local police departments. The signs will be placed in shopping centers, business districts, parks, and other busy spots. The goal is to catch people’s attention in places where vehicle crimes often occur.
Rich Johnson, ICT’s Director of Communications and Public Affairs, pointed out that Texans lose millions of dollars each year to car theft and burglary. Many of these crimes could be avoided by simply locking car doors and keeping keys and valuables out of sight.
According to the Motor Vehicle Crime Prevention Authority, more than 65,000 vehicles are stolen every year in Texas, with nearly 200,000 more being broken into. A lot of these crimes happen because doors are left unlocked or keys and valuables are left inside the vehicle.
On a bigger scale, the National Insurance Crime Bureau reported that in 2024, over 850,000 vehicles were stolen across the United States. That means a car is stolen about every 37 seconds. Thieves don’t just take whole cars—they often target important parts like catalytic converters as well.
The Lock It Down! campaign encourages everyone in Texas to follow some simple steps to protect their vehicles: always lock the doors, take your keys or fob with you, never leave your car running unattended, park in well-lit or secure places, keep valuables hidden or removed—especially firearms—and stay alert in busy areas like shopping centers and travel hubs.
With this campaign, ICT and State Farm aim to give communities an extra layer of protection. A few small actions can help stop criminals and keep cars and belongings safe.
