Strengthen Oklahoma Homes Program Set to Expand Statewide by 2026

The Oklahoma Insurance Department (OID) has reopened certain zip codes for its Strengthen Oklahoma Homes (SOH) Program, giving homeowners in those areas a chance to apply for grants that help protect their homes from storm, wind, and hail damage. This program is designed to support home improvements that make properties safer and more resilient against severe weather.

Initially, OID selected specific zip codes for a pilot phase based on storm history, insurance claims, and the availability of certified contractors. Now, those same areas are welcoming applications again as the agency works toward a statewide launch planned for 2026. At that time, all 77 counties in Oklahoma will be able to participate.

Homeowners approved for the SOH Program can receive up to $10,000 in grant money. The funds must be used for construction projects that meet the standards of the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety’s FORTIFIED Home – Roof™ program, which focuses on protecting homes from high wind and hail damage.

Ashley Scott, Deputy Commissioner and Director of OID’s OKReady initiative, says reopening these zip codes helps more families get the support they need to strengthen their homes and possibly lower their insurance costs. The program aims to make Oklahoma homes safer and better prepared for the storms that often impact the state.

With the pilot reopening and full statewide access coming soon, Oklahoma homeowners now have a valuable opportunity to protect their homes and invest in long-term safety.
