People Moves: RiverStone Appoints Enstar’s Brockman as Group CEO, Succeeding Tanzer; MS Reinsurance Realigns Underwriting Operations with Leadership Changes

RiverStone International and MS Reinsurance have both announced important leadership changes as they look to the future of their businesses.

At RiverStone International, Paul Brockman will take over as group CEO starting January 2026. He will replace Luke Tanzer, who is set to retire later this year after 16 years at the helm. Brockman joins from Enstar Group, bringing with him more than 30 years of experience in legacy insurance markets, having held several senior roles at Enstar, including chief commercial officer and CEO of its U.S. and European branches. RiverStone also promoted Andrew Creed to group president, in addition to his current role as group chief financial officer. Creed has been with RiverStone for over 12 years and has played a key role in the company’s growth and success.

The RiverStone board expressed gratitude for Tanzer’s leadership, noting he helped grow the company from a UK-focused group into a global player in non-life run-off insurance. Under his leadership, RiverStone completed 47 transactions and took on $17.7 billion in gross liabilities. In 2024, the company reported an adjusted profit before tax of $300 million with a strong 19.1% return on tangible book value.

Meanwhile, MS Reinsurance, based in Zurich, has made several changes in its underwriting leadership to strengthen its operations in Switzerland, Bermuda, and the United States. The company has reorganized its specialty lines under one Global Specialty Lines unit, which now includes Engineering. This move aims to better meet the specific needs of these businesses.

Among the leadership shifts, Joerg Bruniecki moves from chief underwriting officer of International to lead Global Specialty Lines. Andy Hottinger was promoted to chief underwriting officer for the International team, filling the role Bruniecki leaves behind. Louis de Segonzac will continue as chief underwriting officer for the Americas business unit.

MS Re has also called upon internal talent to lead specific teams. Paul Murphy now heads a new Financial Risks team covering credit, surety, political risk, and mortgage business globally. Andrew Shaw leads the new Specialty Property team, managing engineering and other specialty risks. Other promotions include David Raich overseeing European Mature Markets and Joe Banker heading a Regional Client team in the Americas.

Charles Goldie, MS Re’s group chief underwriting officer, said the changes reflect the company’s progress and focus on client needs. Over the past three years, MS Re nearly doubled in size by building strong partnerships with clients and brokers.

Both companies are making moves to sharpen their leadership and better serve their clients. With these new appointments and structural shifts, RiverStone and MS Reinsurance appear well placed for growth in the coming years.
