Christopher Wong has been named the new chief information officer at the Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau of California. He steps into the role as Eric Riley prepares to retire at the end of November, capping off a 39-year career with the WCIRB.
Wong brings over 20 years of experience in IT leadership across startups, retail, and insurance. He joined the WCIRB in 2013 as director of IT infrastructure and operations. More recently, he served as managing director of IT architecture, data management, and security, where he was responsible for key business applications, enterprise data, and security systems.
The WCIRB, headquartered in San Francisco, California, will rely on Wong’s expertise as it continues to manage and improve its technology infrastructure. Riley, who held many leadership positions throughout his long tenure, leaves behind a strong foundation in customer operations, service delivery, and technology that Wong is set to build on.
This leadership change marks an important moment for the WCIRB as it looks to keep pace with evolving technology needs in the workers’ compensation insurance field. With Wong’s background in various industries and deep knowledge of the WCIRB’s systems, the organization appears well-positioned for the future.
