Missouri DCI Bulletin restates deadlines for annual statistical reporting

Missouri’s Department of Commerce and Insurance (DCI) has issued a new reminder to insurance companies operating in the state. On February 4, the DCI released Insurance Bulletin 26-03, which outlines the required annual reporting that insurers must complete. The bulletin points companies to Appendix A and the department’s website for detailed guidelines, deadlines, and legal backing.

Insurers are encouraged to file most statistical reports through the Missouri DCI’s online Statistics Claims Reporting Portal. However, there’s an exception for private passenger automobile and residential property data based on Missouri ZIP codes. That specific information should be emailed directly to the department.

Appendix A breaks down the requirements into two main categories: property and casualty filings, and life, health, and accident filings. For property and casualty, insurers need to submit reports like the Annual Statement Page 19 Supplement by March 1, commercial liability data by April 15, dram shop liability summaries by March 31, and mortgage guaranty data by July 1. Some reports, such as legal malpractice and real estate open and closed claims, have deadlines both at the start of the year and within six months after a case concludes. Medical malpractice claims require quarterly reporting. Products liability closed claims are due by March 1.

For life, health, and accident insurance, required reports include the Annual Statement Supplement for Missouri by March 1 and the Medicare supplement experience report by April 1. These can be submitted online through the same portal.

If insurers have questions about the reporting process, they can contact the Missouri DCI’s Business Analytics/Statistics Section via the department’s email.

This move by Missouri’s DCI helps keep insurance companies on track, ensuring timely and accurate data collection for the state’s regulatory needs. With clear deadlines and instructions, the department makes it easier for insurers to comply while keeping Missouri’s insurance market transparent and well-regulated.
