Theo Butt, the UK CEO of Convex Insurance, has been chosen to lead the International Underwriting Association (IUA) as its new chair. He will take over from Claire McDonald, CEO of SCOR Business Solutions, who is stepping down after serving a fixed two-year term.
Butt, who has been on the IUA board since April 2023 and currently serves as deputy chair, was elected at the IUA board’s October meeting. His role as chair will officially begin on January 1, 2026. Chris Jones, the IUA’s chief executive, praised Butt’s influence on the board and said he is well-suited to guide the London insurance market during challenging times.
Jones also expressed his gratitude to Claire McDonald for her leadership over the last two years. Under her chairmanship, the association made progress in technical underwriting, claims issues, and new digital services. McDonald also supported Jones when he became CEO and helped shape the organization’s leadership team.
With Butt stepping in, the association looks forward to driving forward its goals, focusing on digital improvements and efficiency in the industry.
