Progressive Insurance broadens truck cargo coverage across 42 states.

Progressive Insurance has announced an exciting new endorsement called Cargo Plus, aimed at enhancing coverage for for-hire truckers. This new option is now available in 42 states across the United States, expanding protections for those in the trucking industry.

Cargo Plus builds on Progressive’s existing motor truck cargo policy, which already provides legal liability coverage for goods being transported. The new endorsement adds further protections against damage from wetness, rust, and corrosion. It also includes coverage for temperature fluctuations affecting refrigerated loads, but only for those who already have Refrigeration Breakdown coverage.

Peter Niro, the truck product development manager at Progressive, emphasized the importance of this new offering. He noted that trucking customers depend on Progressive for a variety of insurance solutions, competitive pricing, and top-notch customer service. The Cargo Plus endorsement is designed to better meet the diverse coverage needs of these customers.

For those looking to take advantage of this new coverage, it will automatically be included in new Progressive policies that feature Motor Truck Cargo coverage. Current customers with qualifying cargo or refrigeration coverage can also benefit from the enhanced protections before their policy renewal.

The states where Cargo Plus is currently available include Texas, Illinois, Florida, New Jersey, and 38 others. Progressive plans to expand this coverage to 49 states by May 21, 2025, with hopes of achieving full nationwide availability by the end of the year, pending regulatory approval. However, it’s important to note that Refrigeration Breakdown coverage is not offered in California and Florida.

This expansion reflects Progressive’s commitment to supporting the trucking industry and ensuring that truckers have the coverage they need to protect their cargo effectively.
