State Farm is cutting personal auto insurance rates again in Georgia, this time by 3%, marking another step in lowering costs for drivers. This latest approval from Georgia’s Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire adds to previous cuts, bringing the total average rate drop for State Farm customers in the state to 10% over the past year.
Along with this, State Farm Fire and Casualty Co. has received approval for a 1.5% reduction in personal auto insurance rates. These combined rate cuts are expected to benefit more than 2.12 million drivers across Georgia, helping ease the financial burden on many families.
Since December 2024, State Farm calculates that these lower rates have saved policyholders around $400 million a year, averaging about $190 in savings per insured vehicle. These savings come at a time when the state has been actively working to improve the insurance landscape through new laws and fraud prevention.
John King, Georgia’s Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner, credits the rate drops to the state’s strong efforts against fraud and significant tort reforms signed into law in April. These reforms have brought changes like stricter rules around third-party litigation funding, limits on attorney fees, and updated medical billing standards. King said these moves are helping to create a fairer and more stable insurance market, with ongoing work to keep insurance affordable and reliable for Georgia families.
From State Farm’s side, senior vice president Allyson Watts said the rate reductions are also a result of fewer costly physical damage claims. She added that the company is happy to offer customers better rates along with local agent support and good service.
State Farm remains the largest private passenger auto insurer in Georgia, holding a 24.8% share of the market in 2024. It stays ahead of competitors like Progressive, Allstate, Berkshire Hathaway, and USAA.
This recent development shows how regulatory changes and insurer efforts can work together to bring relief to drivers. It also highlights the importance of ongoing attention to the legal and insurance environment to keep car insurance more affordable for everyone in Georgia.
