Texas Man Receives Sentence for Multi-Million Dollar Insurance Fraud Scheme

A Texas man has been sentenced to over 13 years in prison for his role in a large insurance fraud scheme that cost companies around $5 million. Jordan Ford, 32, was charged in June 2024 and pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud in September 2024. On Thursday, U.S. District Judge Mark Pittman sentenced him to 157 months in prison and ordered him to pay nearly $4.5 million in restitution to the insurance companies he defrauded.

Ford and his accomplices targeted insurance company employees, convincing them to provide personal information from legitimate claims. With this stolen information, Ford impersonated clients and contacted insurance companies to change payment details to accounts he controlled. In some cases, he even paid employees to let him use their company laptops, allowing him to access the companies’ systems directly to authorize fraudulent payments.

The scheme involved at least three insurance companies and resulted in the misdirection of over $4.4 million. All nine individuals charged in the case have pleaded guilty, including Ford’s associate Humberto Corona and several insurance employees who assisted in the fraud by sharing client information or granting access to company systems.

The investigation was carried out by the FBI’s Dallas Field Office and the Texas Department of Insurance, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Matthew Weybrecht leading the prosecution. This case highlights the serious consequences of insurance fraud and the collaborative efforts of law enforcement to combat such crimes.
