Personnel Changes: The Hanover Establishes COO Role and Appoints Lavey to the Position

The Hanover, a property-casualty insurance company based in Worcester, Massachusetts, has appointed Dick Lavey as its new chief operating officer. This role is newly created as the company looks to strengthen its leadership team.

Lavey brings a wealth of experience to the position, with 35 years in the insurance and technology sectors. He has spent the last 19 years at The Hanover Group, where he has served as executive vice president for agency markets since 2017. In his new role, he will continue to oversee personal lines and commercial business, as well as sales and distribution, corporate underwriting, marketing, and risk solutions.

In addition to these responsibilities, Lavey will also facilitate collaboration between the company’s business and technology teams, aiming to enhance efficiency and innovation.

He holds an MBA from Harvard Business School. Before joining The Hanover in 2004, Lavey worked at The Hartford in various strategic roles. His career also includes stints at software companies ChannelPoint and Bowstreet, and as a strategy consultant for CSC Healthcare. He began his career at The Travelers Insurance Company.

Founded in 1852, The Hanover is one of the oldest insurance companies in the United States. The company has undergone several changes over the years, including a name change and a rebranding effort in the 1990s. With Lavey stepping into this new role, The Hanover aims to continue its legacy while adapting to the evolving insurance landscape.
