Marks & Spencer has halted online orders in the UK and Ireland due to a cyber attack. The company announced this change on Friday, following reports of the incident earlier in the week. This news caused a 5% drop in the company’s shares.
The retailer, known for its clothing and homeware, decided to pause online orders as a precaution. They are working with cyber experts to address the situation and hope to restore online shopping soon. In a message posted on social media, M&S apologized for the disruption and reassured customers that physical stores remain open for business.
Some international websites operated by M&S are also temporarily stopping orders. The company had previously indicated that it was affected by a cyber incident, leading to adjustments in store operations.
Customers have reported issues with contactless payments and delays with click-and-collect orders. The National Crime Agency is aware of the situation and is collaborating with the National Cyber Security Centre to assist M&S.
M&S is a well-known brand in the UK, having generated around £13 billion in revenue last year from its food, clothing, and homeware sales, with about a third of clothing and home sales coming from online orders. As the company works to resolve the cyber attack, it remains focused on ensuring the safety and satisfaction of its customers.
