Markel and AXA XL Reinsurance have recently made significant executive appointments, marking important changes in leadership within their organizations.
Markel has announced that Lee Mooney will take over as the managing director of Markel UK, succeeding Neil Galjaard, who is stepping down from the role. Mooney, who has over 25 years of experience in the insurance industry, previously worked at RSA, where he led the UK Commercial Lines Business. In his new position, he will be based in Leeds and will report to Henrik Bjornstad, managing director of National Markets at Markel International. This change comes after Galjaard’s successful tenure, during which revenue grew by 200% and profitability improved. Galjaard decided to step down after helping develop a new five-year strategy for the business.
Meanwhile, AXA XL Reinsurance has appointed Petya Ivanova as the Head of Property for International Reinsurance, effective July 1st. In this role, she will manage the Property portfolio across the International region and work closely with clients and the underwriting team. Ivanova brings more than 25 years of experience in property and casualty insurance, having held various positions within AXA Group in both Paris and New York. Her most recent role was as head of Mature Markets in the Group Ceded Reinsurance department. Bertrand Romagne, CEO of International Reinsurance, expressed confidence in Ivanova’s ability to drive underwriting excellence and enhance the visibility of the International Property portfolio.
Both appointments reflect a strategic focus on leadership and growth within these organizations as they continue to adapt to the evolving insurance landscape.
