US Vehicle Recalls Hit Highest Point in More Than a Year

Between April and June, more than 7.3 million vehicles were recalled in the U.S., marking the highest number in over a year and more than double the recalls seen in the previous quarter. This surge, revealed in BizzyCar’s Q2 2025 Recall Report, shows a growing concern for vehicle safety as many families gear up for summer travel.

Ford took the lead with over 3.3 million vehicles recalled across 49 separate campaigns, making up almost half of all affected cars. General Motors and Honda were the next most impacted brands. Alarmingly, about 95% of these vehicles have defects that could lead to crashes or injuries if not fixed promptly.

The main problem involved back-over prevention systems, affecting nearly 2.6 million vehicles. Other significant issues included engine and engine cooling systems with around 1.14 million vehicles recalled, and hydraulic service brakes involved in 775,000 recalls. These problems underline ongoing concerns about critical safety systems.

The recalls prompted serious warnings, including three “Do Not Drive” and three “Park Outside” advisories, emphasizing the urgency of fixing these issues. Over one million vehicles can be repaired through Over-the-Air (OTA) software updates, but most fixes still require a trip to a service center.

Since early 2022, only about 15% of recalls have been fixed via OTA updates. This highlights how many repairs still need hands-on work by trained technicians, especially for things like steering, brakes, and seats that involve physical parts. Ryan Maher, CEO of BizzyCar, pointed out that while OTA updates are convenient, dealerships remain crucial for safety repairs.

With serious safety risks on the line, drivers are urged to schedule recall repairs as soon as possible. Dealers continue to be the key players in making sure vehicles are safe and road-ready.
